Customers in the UK now have another chance to drive a new special edition Land Rover Freelander with the Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition. This special edition comes with a refreshed interior and exterior design with a Firenze Red that seems to be especially created for the women out there. Don’t worry guys, this special edition also comes in Fuji White and Santorini Black.

Next to these special exterior colors, the new Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition features a black grille and side vents, a new body styling pack which offers cleaner profiling to the front corners, a new rear spoiler, and 19" Shadow Chrome alloy wheels.

For the interior, Land Rover is offering Ebony Windsor leather with contrast Pimento stitch, or Ebony Napoli leather with matching contrast Windsor leather highlight stripe on the seats.

With a total output of 190 hp, the new SD4 Sport limited edition sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds with an increased top speed of 118mph.
The exterior has been given a striking renewal, with a sophisticated black finish to the grille and the side vents, a new body styling pack which offers cleaner profiling to the front corners, and a choice of three exterior colourways in either Fuji White, Santorini Black or the all-new Firenze Red. A rear spoiler also features, together with 19" Shadow Chrome alloy wheels, body coloured door handles and mirror caps, and privacy glass to further emphasise the dynamic look of this premium limited edition. Front and rear parking sensors will be available as standard.

The interior is available in Ebony Windsor leather with contrast Pimento stitch, or Ebony Napoli leather with matching contrast Windsor leather highlight stripe on the seats. Piano Black fascia finisher also features together with Ebony carpet mats with a contrast edge of either Ivory or Pimento. These design themes, with the contrast colours and unique stripe design offer a distinct and sporty look for the Freelander 2.

The Freelander 2 SD4 Sport is powered by the new state-of-the-art 190PS diesel engine. This Limited Edition (available with automatic transmission only) accelerates from rest to 60mph in 8.7 seconds with an increased top speed of 118mph.

The use of an Intelligent Power Management System (IPMS) provides ‘smart charging’ of the battery by recovering kinetic energy when the vehicle is slowing wherever possible, rather than consuming fuel by charging when the vehicle is accelerating, and in addition to this, the Freelander 2 Sport SD4 Limited Edition is compatible with 10 percent biodiesel rather than five percent. With these improved efficiencies, CO2 emissions are reduced to 185g/km with a corresponding fuel economy benefit.

“The Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition offers customers the practicality, performance and efficiency of our best-selling compact SUV with more dramatic, sporty styling and the overall package represents good value for money,” said Colin Green, managing director, Land Rover UK.
Land Rover has denounced a Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition in a Bologna Motor Show. Unique for this unaccompanied book is a black-finished roaster as effective as side vents, code new styling to get a front corners, a behind spoiler, body-colored pathway handles and reflection caps, remoteness potion as good as 19-inch commingle wheels in Shadow Chrome.

The Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Unique comes in a welfare of three extraneous colors: Fuji White, Santorini Black or Firenze Red.

Over a inside is really a welfare of twin themes for a finish. An Ebony Windsor leather with facing Pimento stitching or even a Ebony Napoli leather that has a Windsor leather prominence badge for just a seats. There’s additionally a Piano Black fascia finisher complimented by Ebony mats that has a opposition corner in presumably Ivory or Pimento.
Land Rover chose the recent Bologna Motor Show in Italy to unveil its limited edition Freelander 2 Sport. The regular Freelander 2 will be launched in Australia in February.

The baby of the Land Rover range now has a body kit with squared-off bumpers, a rear spoiler and whopping 19-inch alloys. Body-coloured door handles and mirror caps along with privacy glass further emphasise the dynamic look of this premium limited edition. Front and rear parking sensors will be available as standard. Buyers can choose from three exclusive colours: Fuji White, Santorini Black, or Firenze Red (pictured above).

The tweaks on the inside are subtle rather than significant, with the choice of either Ebony Windsor leather with contrast Pimento stitch, or Ebony Napoli leather with matching contrast Windsor leather highlight stripe on the seats. A Piano Black fascia finisher also features together with Ebony carpet mats that have a contrast edge of either Ivory or Pimento.

Only available with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine (consuming 7.0L/100km) and a six-speed automatic gearbox, the Sport can run on a mixture of 90 per cent regular diesel and 10 per cent bio-diesel. With 140kW and 310Nm it’ll hit 100km/h in a tick under nine seconds.

While there's no word on when we'll see the Freelander 2 SD4 Sport down under, Land Rover Australia's marketing and public affairs manager, Tim Krieger, says "It's a car that's definitely on our radar". Fingers crossed, then.

Our first taste of the 2011 model Freelander came in the top-of-the-range HSE SD4 (priced at $65,854 plus costs), which boasts a healthy standard equipment list and is home to the most powerful diesel engine in the Freelander range - a new 140kW version.

The extra equipment is noticeable inside the new HSE. It features the same touch-screen sat-nav system as is seen in the Discovery, as well as Bluetooth connectivity (albeit for phone only, not music as many manufacturers currently offer), leather trim, and electric seats with three-position memory which also remember three wing mirror settings, too.

There's a nine-speaker stereo with auxiliary plug, but a USB input (and therefore iPod sync) is absent, even on the range-topper.

There's plenty of space inside, with good head and legroom front and rear. The boot of the Freelander, at 755 litres, offers enough room for several large suitcases, and the rear seats fold for even more room (1670L).

All Freelanders have seen a subtle styling update, with a revised front bumper and headlights giving the car a more commanding stance, while the rear sees a boot-width silver-trim handle and new-look taillights. Separating the HSE from its fellow Freelanders are xenon headlamps, front door puddle lamps under the wing mirrors, front parking sensors, a tailgate-topping spoiler and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Freelander's new SD4 diesel engine (only available in the SE and HSE variants) produces 140kW of power - up from 118kW on the TD4 model - while torque has also risen to 420Nm (previously 400Nm). The SD4 is only available mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission.

The additional squirt is noticeable almost as soon as we commence our drive from the Sydney CBD towards Mollymook on the NSW South Coast.

The Freelander exhibits impressive throttle response and little in the way of turbo lag in stop-start traffic, while the revised transmission shifts through gears smoothly. The powerplant delivers prompt progress, with little in the way of diesel grumble.

The Freelander's in-town ride is supple considering the HSE rides on 19-inch wheels with thin (by off-roader standards) rubber, with only bigger bumps being transferred to the cabin.

The steering is overly light, and, though that may suit some buyers, we found it a little underweight, and felt it lacked some of the driver involvement.

But that fingertip-light steering also means the littlest Land Rover is very manoeuvrable in traffic, aided by its excellent visibility which comes thanks to expansive glass, a low belt-line and high driving position (where the driver sits up high as though king/queen of the commute).

On the freeway the Freelander rolls nicely, taking bumps without issue and exhibiting little in the way of road noise. The engine is barely audible at 110km/h (until you start climbing a hill), but there is some wind noise due to its rather large square wing mirrors - it's far from deal-breakingly loud, though.

In some curlier sections, the Freelander feels nimble despite its 1805kg bulk (actually closer to 2-tonne with two lads and luggage onboard). It holds the road well through twists, only slightly leaning through bends taken at higher speeds.

The 19-inch Continental tyres offer plenty of traction, and power delivery to all four wheels is smooth and slip-free. The Freelander's steering feels weightier through corners, making it more involving and exciting for the driver.

On steeper sections the transmission is slightly clunky when downshifting, as it has been tuned for optimum economy (meaning it'll stay in a higher gear where possible). However, that small annoyance is easily remedied by switching to manual mode, which impresses in that it doesn't overrule the driver unless the on-board computer considers it vital to do so - a trait not many manufacturers can attest to.

After swapping to the mid-range SE ($56,810 plus costs), we hit some unsealed roads and a more hardcore stretch of rugged, muddy fire-trail.

Over coarse, rocky sections, the Freelander coped with ease, with impressive off-road manners. The ride was compliant, and the body felt sold and very rigid as we traversed some slow-going deeper ditches.

With its 500mm wading depth, shallow river crossings weren't an obstacle for the Freelander, while some foot-and-a-half-deep mud puddles offered an opportunity we couldn't pass up, and with commendable results - the Freelander feels just as capable in the muck as its big brother, the Discovery.

While we didn't need to use Land Rover's Terrain Reponse system (which changes the way the car behaves dependent on the surface/situation (rocks, sand, snow, etc.), it was handy, if only for peace-of-mind.

Despite costing close to $9000 less than the HSE, the SE feels strikingly similar inside and is probably the best bet in the value-for-money stakes. It's still leather-lined, it still has a nine-speaker Alpine stereo system, and it still has a touch-screen sat-nav system - though this one's a Garmin in-dash fixture that's an Australia-only addition.

So if you're in the market for a compact SUV that'll stand out from the city crowd while also being able to stand up to the bigger boys in the bush, Land Rover's updated Freelander offers a package that's both comfortable on-road and capable off.
A new limited version of the Freelander 2 was unveiled today at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy. Set to arrive in early 2011, the Freelander 2 SD4 Sport LE will be built in a limited run with the UK to receive 500 units priced from £33,945.

“The Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition offers customers the practicality, performance and efficiency of our best-selling compact SUV with more dramatic, sporty styling and the overall package represents good value for money,” said Colin Green, managing director, Land Rover UK.

In a similar fashion to the Discovery 4 Landmark Special Edition, the Freelander 2 SD4 LE receives a front grille finished in black and shares two out of the three exterior color options with its bigger sibling, including the Fuji White and Santorini Black, joined by the all-new Firenze Red tone, shown in the pictures.

A discrete bodykit and 19-inch alloys improve the look of the car, while front and rear parking sensors are offered as standard. The interior can be clad either in Ebony Windsor or Ebony Napoli leather, with contrasting stitching or leather stripes. Parts of the dashboard have a Piano Black finish, complemented by new duo-tone floor mats.

The Limited Edition comes with a 190 hp 2.2-liter four-pot diesel, coupled to a six-speed automatic, capable of accelerating the car from standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 8.7 seconds. Top speed is pegged at 118 mph (190 km/h).

Thanks to the Intelligent Power Management System (IPMS), the battery is charged by recovered kinetic energy whenever the vehicle is decelerating. The Freelander 2 Sport SD4 Limited Edition can run on 10% biodiesel and has CO2 emissions of 185 g/km.
Inside the cabin, there’s now a more contemporary fascia with new and clearer dials. There’s still generous space (certainly far more than the first generation) with good head, shoulder and legroom. All passengers can enjoy the view with Land Rover’s unique ‘stadium seating’ which positions the rear seat passengers 50 mm higher than those in the front seats. The rear backrests are divided in a 60/40 ratio and can be folded down together or individually to suit load requirements.
The new powerplant 187 bhp and 420 Nm, higher than before, with 20 Nm more torque available at a lower rpm for stronger acceleration or pulling heavy loads. As before, the Freelander 2 has Land Rover’s pioneering Terrain Response system. This system allows the drive to select a suitable driving mode according to the conditions. Each model adapts the responses of the vehicle's engine, gearbox, centre coupling and chassis systems for optimal drivability, comfort and traction.
The Terrain Response system also controls stability and traction aids such as Dynamic Stability Control, Electronic Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Corner Brake Control, Roll Stability Control and Hill Descent Control.
